Eric Theriault 10/05/20014 I started taking lessons with Mel when I first moved to Concord when I was 9 years old. I practiced an hour every morning before school... until high school, when my nighttime activities started affecting my wake up times, haha. Even then, Mel drove my improvement forward with encouragement, genuine interest, and the ability to instruct me in an extremely wide variety of styles. We even threw in a few months of accordion, harmonica, and guitar along the way! Even after I left NH for college, music remained a huge part of my life. I remember my parents moving me into my dorm my freshmen year. All of a sudden, they looked around and couldn't find me anywhere. Eventually, they discovered me, not 2 hours after arriving on campus, playing the piano in the parlor of my dorm so 2 of my brand new lady friends could practice their harmonies for choir auditions. Thanks for the skills, Mel. College was much more fun, being able to play the piano. 🙂 Since then, I've played for choirs, I've directed musicals, I've entertained at parties of all kinds - all because of the skill and knowledge I built up over the almost 10 years I worked with Mel. And now, I have the ability to sit down at my piano whenever I want, pull out a fake book, and just play. It's one of my favorite things to do when I have a few minutes here and there.
